Best Restaurants in Greenway Plaza, Houston: 11 Places to Eat

Date Published

Illustrated night skyline over a dinner table, the best restaurants in Greenway Plaza Houston

Most people know Greenway Plaza as the cluster of office towers they pass on US-59 between Montrose and the Galleria, and the arena that used to be The Summit. Get off the freeway and the eating gets serious fast. In a few blocks you'll find a dining room that has been doing tableside service since 1965, a modern Cajun-Creole raw bar, our favorite neighborhood Japanese kitchen, and the original Goode Co. barbecue joint that turned a stretch of Kirby Drive into a family food empire.

Here's the line to send a friend: this is the part of Houston where the barbecue joint will smoke the meat you bring in, and the taqueria across the street starts grilling at 7 a.m.

How we define the area

For this guide, Greenway Plaza and Upper Kirby's southern edge means the pocket bounded by West Alabama Street to the north, Bissonnet Street to the south, Shepherd Drive to the east and Weslayan Street to the west. That takes in the Greenway Plaza office campus and Lakewood Church on US-59, Levy Park, and Kirby Drive from West Alabama down past Westpark to the Goode Co. corner near Bissonnet.

Everything north of West Alabama, including West Ave and the Westheimer strip, is covered in our best restaurants in Upper Kirby guide.

How we chose

Every restaurant below had to be open and confirmed on its own official website (or, for the Levy Park vendor, the park's official site) as of October 2026, with an address inside the lines above. We mixed white-tablecloth dinners with breakfast tacos and park food, because the people who work in these towers need both. We left out spots we couldn't confirm were still operating at their Greenway or Kirby address.

Prices are a rough guide: $ is cheap eats, $$ a moderate meal, $$$ upscale, $$$$ a splurge. Hours and menus change, so check each restaurant's site before you go.

Five things even regulars don't know

  • Goode Co. Barbeque will smoke your meat for you. Its menu lists a "Mesquite Smoke Your Meat" service: drop off thawed meat (10-pound minimum) and the pit crew handles it.
  • The weekend specials only happen on Kirby. The pitmaster and Kirby crew run a rotating set of weekend features Thursday to Sunday at the original location, until they sell out.
  • Goode Co. Taqueria exists because the barbecue worked. The family opened the barbecue joint in 1977, then opened a taqueria across the street and grilled its Tex-Mex over mesquite too.
  • Tiny Boxwoods is named after plants. The name comes from the small potted plants in the nursery where it first opened, and the West Alabama restaurant still sits next to that nursery.
  • Tony's has a secret-ish menu. Alongside lunch and dinner, the restaurant posts an "Off-Menu Icons" menu and a separate tableside menu. Ask about both.

The splurge tables

Tony's

Greenway Plaza edge · Italian fine dining · $$$$

Tony's at 3755 Richmond Avenue has been serving Houston since 1965, and it still runs like a grand dining room: tableside preparations, over-the-top soufflés and famously discreet service. Founder Tony Vallone built the menu around sourcing ingredients at the very start of their season, and that idea still drives the kitchen.

What to order: Start with the lobster bisque, then a house-made pasta such as the lobster fra diavolo linguine, or the veal chop with its pommes soufflé crisp. Ask to see the Off-Menu Icons and tableside menus.

Know before you go: There's a friendly but formal dress code; no shorts, baseball caps, athletic wear or scrubs. It's typically open for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Friday and dinner only on Saturday, with happy hour Tuesday to Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. A weekday happy hour at the bar is the cheapest way into the room.

Eunice

Buffalo Speedway at Greenway Plaza · Cajun-Creole and raw bar · $$$

Eunice at 3737 Buffalo Speedway is chef-owner Drake Leonards' modern Cajun-Creole restaurant and raw bar, built on local seafood, seasonal produce and the flavors of his childhood.

What to order: Chargrilled oysters with garlic herb butter, cast iron cornbread with Steen's cane syrup, Drew's smoked chicken and sausage gumbo, and shrimp étouffée over house-made pasta. Finish with the lemon icebox pie.

Insider tip: On weekdays there's a fixed-price Power Lunch that includes gumbo or a salad, and the Friday lunch special is a court-bouillon with Gulf fish, shrimp and oysters. Brunch runs on the weekend. More Gulf picks in our best seafood restaurants guide.

Kata Robata

Kirby at Richmond · Japanese, sushi and robata grill · $$$

Kata Robata at 3600 Kirby Drive is chef Manabu "Hori" Horiuchi's sushi and robata kitchen, with a daily specials sheet that changes every day and a reserve sake and wine list.

What to order: Nigiri from the Japanese fish section of the menu, hamachi kama (grilled yellowtail collar), chicken skewers three ways, and the Texas Wagyu katsu sando when it's available. Then order the one dish that sounds wrong and isn't: miso lobster macaroni and cheese, made with parmesan from Houston Dairymaids.

Insider tip: Lunch runs Monday to Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is the easiest way to get a table without planning ahead.

Kiran's

Richmond Avenue · North Indian · $$$

Kiran's at 2925 Richmond Avenue is chef Kiran Verma's North Indian dining room. The kitchen cooks low and slow with a light hand on the spices, and some dishes come out of traditional clay tandoor ovens. All the chicken and lamb is halal.

What to order: Anything from the tandoor, plus a lamb dish and bread for the table. If you're not sure, the tasting menu does the choosing for you.

Insider tip: Kiran's serves afternoon tea on Friday and Saturday from noon, with 2 p.m. as the last seating. It's typically closed Sundays. More in our best Indian restaurants guide.

Easygoing sit-down meals

Tiny Boxwoods

West Alabama · Garden cafe · $$

Tiny Boxwoods at 3614 West Alabama Street is a garden-side cafe next to the nursery that inspired it, and it's the calmest lunch in this guide.

What to order: Mother's Breakfast (eggs, white cheddar jalapeño grits and biscuits) in the morning, the Lucky Burger or the Calabrian pizza at lunch, and the chocolate chip cookie, which the restaurant calls the house favorite.

Know before you go: The Houston locations take reservations for dinner only, so breakfast and lunch are walk-in. It's typically closed Mondays and serves brunch on weekends.

Hearsay at Levy Park

Levy Park · American · $$

Hearsay at 3728 Wakeforest Street sits right on Levy Park, and it's the restaurant to pick when you want a proper meal while the kids or the dog stay close to the lawn. The group describes this location as family- and pet-friendly.

What to order: Ahi tuna nachos and a cocktail on the patio, or Sunday brunch after a morning in the park. It's typically open daily from 11 a.m., and from 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Goode Co. Seafood

Westpark Drive · Gulf seafood · $$

Goode Co. Seafood at 2621 Westpark Drive, just off Kirby, has been serving Gulf seafood since 1986.

What to order: The campechana de mariscos, a Mexican-style seafood cocktail with pico de gallo, fire-roasted Anaheim peppers and avocado (shrimp, crab or both). After that, mesquite-grilled oysters with garlic herb butter and Romano, or the Laguna Madre shrimp: jumbo Gulf shrimp stuffed with jalapeño and white cheddar, then wrapped in bacon.

Insider tip: Happy hour runs weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with throwback favorites like oysters Rockefeller and shrimp and crab tamales.

Goode Co. Armadillo Palace

Kirby Drive · Texas dance hall and kitchen · $$

Armadillo Palace at 5015 Kirby Drive is a dance hall first, but the kitchen is serious about mesquite: spit-roasted chicken, carne asada, redfish on the half shell and the Damn Goode Burger, with sides like bacon cheddar grits and smoked-chicken collard greens.

Know before you go: It's typically closed Sundays and Mondays. Check the live music calendar and eat before the band starts.

Cheap eats

Goode Co. Taqueria

Kirby Drive · Tex-Mex · $

Goode Co. Taqueria at 4902 Kirby Drive opens at 7 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends, which makes it the breakfast stop in this guide.

What to order: Migas with chorizo, or breakfast tacos with venison or pork sausage, first thing. Later in the day, mesquite-grilled fajitas or border quail, and a Damn Goode Margarita. More in our best Tex-Mex guide.

Goode Co. Barbeque

Kirby Drive · Texas barbecue · $–$$

Goode Co. Barbeque at 5109 Kirby Drive is the original, open since 1977 and smoking over mesquite.

What to order: A brisket or jalapeño pork sausage sandwich on jalapeño cheese bread, jalapeño pinto beans, and a slice of Brazos Bottom Pecan Pie. Come Thursday to Sunday for the weekend specials. More in our best BBQ in Houston guide.

Gaspachos Mexican Bites

Levy Park · Mexican counter service · $

Gaspachos is Levy Park's fast-casual Mexican spot, listed on the park's official site. Order tortas, flautas and tacos at the counter, and grab a mangonada or elote from its fruit-and-cravings truck. It even serves treats for dogs, so the dog gets lunch too.

Tips for eating around Greenway Plaza

  • Weekday lunch is the rush. This is an office district, so noon fills fast. Go early, or flip it and come for dinner or happy hour, when the towers empty out.
  • Sunday mornings belong to Lakewood. The church's services bring heavy traffic around Edloe Street and the Greenway garages. Plan a Sunday brunch on Kirby or at Levy Park instead.
  • Several spots close early in the week. Tony's and Armadillo Palace are typically closed Sunday and Monday, Tiny Boxwoods on Monday, Kiran's on Sunday.
  • Park once on Kirby. The three Goode Co. spots on Kirby are within a short walk of each other.

Save this: eat your way through Greenway Plaza

  1. 7 a.m.: Migas and a breakfast taco at Goode Co. Taqueria.
  2. Mid-morning: Walk off breakfast at Levy Park, then grab a mangonada from Gaspachos.
  3. Lunch: Weekday lunch at Kata Robata, or the Power Lunch gumbo at Eunice.
  4. 3 p.m.: A chocolate chip cookie and espresso on the Tiny Boxwoods patio.
  5. Happy hour: Campechana and mesquite-grilled oysters at Goode Co. Seafood.
  6. Dinner: Dress up for Tony's, or keep it casual with brisket on jalapeño cheese bread at Goode Co. Barbeque.
  7. Nightcap: Live music and a longneck at Armadillo Palace.
