Best Pizza in Sugar Land: Coal-Fired, Deep Dish, Halal and Delivery

Date Published

Pizza Sugar Land illustration: pepperoni pie on a peel, pizza boxes and a waffle at night

In Sugar Land, the best pizza night might end with a waffle. At Sugar Land Town Square you can order a pie and a waffle at the same table, then walk across to a coal-fired oven that traces its roots to a pizzeria under the Brooklyn Bridge. A few exits down US 59, there's a halal pizzeria where even the pepperoni is zabihah.

This guide sorts the best pizza in Sugar Land by style, then by how you want to eat it: at a table with a glass of wine, or on the couch with the box open. It's short on purpose. Every pick is a place we'd send a neighbor.

What we mean by Sugar Land

We kept this list strictly to Sugar Land addresses. That includes the city itself and the neighborhoods that share its mailing address, like Greatwood. We left out Missouri City, Stafford and Richmond, even when a pizzeria sits a block over the line. Those have their own guides: see our Missouri City restaurant guide and our Richmond restaurant guide.

The quick list

  • For a classic coal-fired pie: Grimaldi's, across from Sugar Land Town Square.
  • For a sit-down Italian dinner with pizza at its center: B.B. Italia on City Walk.
  • For the most fun menu in town: Jupiter Pizza & Waffle Co., also on City Walk.
  • For a New York-style delivery night: Russo's or Pepperoni's, each with two Sugar Land locations.
  • For halal pizza: Pizza 101 or Napoli Express.
  • For deep dish with a big group: BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse on Highway 6.
  • For build-your-own in a hurry: MOD Pizza, with three Sugar Land locations.

How we chose

We looked for pizzerias with a clear style and a reason to choose them over the chain on the corner: a special oven, a family recipe, a menu you can't get elsewhere, or a dietary promise they keep. Each one had to show a Sugar Land location on its own official website as of October 2026. A few well-loved names didn't make it because we couldn't confirm them that way. If they're still making pizza, we'd like to hear about it.

Hours and menus change. Treat every detail below as "typically," and check the restaurant's site before you go.

New York style and coal-fired

Grimaldi's Pizzeria

First Colony, 16535 Southwest Fwy · dine-in, carryout and delivery

Grimaldi's started under the Brooklyn Bridge in the DUMBO neighborhood, and its pies still come out of a coal-fired brick oven. That oven gives the crust the char and what the restaurant calls a crisp-yet-chewy texture. The Sugar Land restaurant sits at First Colony Mall, across from Sugar Land Town Square. It says it has been serving the city for more than 15 years.

There's a covered patio and a bar, plus a private room for up to 30 if you're planning a team dinner or a birthday. Parking is behind the restaurant.

Order: a plain cheese or a simple margherita first. This is a pizza you judge by its crust.

Russo's New York Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen

Highway 6 (403 Hwy 6) and Greatwood (6560 Greatwood Pkwy) · dine-in, takeout, delivery, catering

The Russo family has been making pizza since 1978, and its motto is simple: "If it isn't fresh, don't serve it." The dough is made by hand every day, with extra virgin olive oil imported from Sicily. The lasagna, gnocchi and sauces are made in-house too.

Order: the Doppio Pepperoni. The menu also has gluten-free and vegan options, and the Greatwood location lists halal choices.

Best for: a family that wants pizza and the person who wants pasta to share one order.

Pepperoni's

First Colony (3721 Highway 6) and Greatwood (19875 Southwest Fwy) · pickup and delivery

Pepperoni's is a Houston-area New York-style chain with more than 20 locations. Founder Ray Salti and his family opened the first one in 1990. Here's the detail most regulars don't know: the founder works with DiNapoli, a California tomato brand, to grow and harvest the tomatoes for Pepperoni's sauces. The dough uses untreated flour that's never bleached or bromated.

Order: online, straight from the site, and join the rewards program if you're a regular. Gluten-free and vegan options are on the menu.

Best for: a weeknight delivery you don't have to think about.

Sit-down pizza at Sugar Land Town Square

B.B. Italia Bistro & Bar

Sugar Land Town Square, 16250 City Walk · dine-in and online ordering

B.B. Italia is the place to take someone who wants pizza and a proper Italian dinner at the same time. Pies come in 10-inch and 18-inch sizes. The menu runs from a classic margherita and quattro formaggi to house pies called the Upstate, the Butcher Shop and the Hot Oil Pie. Garlic knots, a kids' menu and a Wednesday family pizza package make it an easy weeknight pick.

Order: the Hot Oil Pie to share, and a 20-layer lasagna if someone isn't in a pizza mood.

Jupiter Pizza & Waffle Co.

Sugar Land Town Square, 16135 City Walk · dine-in, breakfast and private rooms

Jupiter is the most fun menu on this list. It serves stone-baked pizza and Belgian waffles, sweet and savory, under one roof. The menu leans into the space theme with names like Astrofries, Lunar Fries and Krab Nebula, and pies like the Kung Fu Pizza and Say Cheese Pizza. There's a breakfast menu, a happy hour with a Cheap-O Hour menu, and two private rooms named Neptune and Pluto.

Order: a pizza for the table and a waffle for dessert. Nobody will stop you.

Best for: birthdays, weekend breakfast with kids, and anyone who can't decide between sweet and savory.

Deep dish

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse

2231 Highway 6 · dine-in and takeout

BJ's is known for its deep dish pizza and its own beers. Its Sugar Land restaurant typically stays open until around midnight, later than the other pizzerias on this list, which makes it a useful stop after a show at Smart Financial Centre. The menu runs well beyond pizza, so it works for a group that can't agree.

Order: a deep dish to share.

Halal pizza

Pizza 101

15215 Southwest Fwy · dine-in, pickup, delivery and catering

Pizza 101 says it's 100% zabihah halal certified, and it means every meat: the beef, the kabab, the chicken tikka, the beef bacon and the pepperoni. It has served no pork or alcohol since it opened in 2016. The pies blend desi flavors with a classic hand-stretched crust made fresh daily.

Order: the Chicken Tikka or the Kabab Madness. Meat lovers should try the Meat Overload.

Napoli Express Pizza

10145 S Highway 6 · dine-in, takeout and delivery

Napoli Express cooks with 100% halal meat and ingredients, and it does a lot more than pizza: calzones, strombolis, gyros, half-pound burgers, wings and pasta. The menu blends Italian, Asian and American comfort food, so it's the right call when everyone wants something different.

Order: a pizza and a stromboli for the table.

Build your own, fast

MOD Pizza

Three Sugar Land locations: 2735 Town Center Blvd, 19820 Southwest Fwy and 18931 University Blvd · pickup and delivery

At MOD, you walk down the line, pick your toppings and watch your pie get built. It typically opens at 10:30 a.m., earlier than most places here. With three locations across Sugar Land, there's usually one on your way.

Best for: picky kids, team lunches, and anyone who wants every topping on one pie.

Delivery or dine-in?

  • Best dine-in: Grimaldi's for the oven, B.B. Italia for a full Italian dinner, Jupiter for a party.
  • Best delivery: Russo's and Pepperoni's both take orders on their own sites. Ordering direct is often cheaper than going through an app.
  • Best for big groups: BJ's or Grimaldi's private room.

  • Best quick lunch: MOD.

Thin, blistered crusts are at their best straight out of the oven and soften in a box. For Grimaldi's coal-fired pies, eat in or pick up yourself.
