Best Breakfast in Kemah, TX: Tacos, Diners and Waterfront Spots

Date Published

Best breakfast in Kemah TX: coffee mug with steam, breakfast taco and boardwalk pier over Galveston Bay at night

Kemah’s breakfast scene clusters along two corridors: Highway 146, the main commercial artery running through town, and the waterfront wrapping around the Kemah Boardwalk and Marina Bay Drive. This guide covers eight breakfast spots within Kemah city limits and the immediately neighboring communities that share the 77565 zip code — Clear Lake Shores (a narrow strip along Marina Bay Drive) and the western edge of Seabrook. League City and other suburbs are not included.

One honest note before the list: there is no dedicated kolache bakery currently operating in Kemah proper. Snowflake Donuts, which appeared on earlier Kemah lists, is marked permanently closed on Yelp as of August 2026. If kolaches are the specific goal, the nearest Kolache Factory is at 306 Gulf Frwy North in League City, about five miles north on I-45, open Monday–Saturday from 6 AM and Sunday from 7 AM.

How we chose

Every spot was confirmed open via an official website, an active online-ordering profile, or a Yelp listing updated in 2026. We did not include any venue we could not verify as currently operating. Hours change often: treat every schedule here as “typically” and check the venue’s own site before you go.

Along Highway 146

Hwy 146 carries the morning traffic from surrounding neighborhoods and the marina. Most of the full-service breakfast spots sit along it.

Patron Breakfast Diner

1201 N Hwy 146 Suite A, Kemah · open daily 7 AM–3 PM

Patron Breakfast Diner opened in Kemah in 2024 and quickly became the default for a classic American plate. The menu runs through pancakes, fluffy omelets, eggs Benedict, and biscuits and gravy, with burgers and salads at lunch. The seating is spacious and it handles families well without rushing tables.

Order: A pancake and egg plate, or the signature nachos grande — an unusual choice for breakfast service and worth ordering at least once.

Tormenta Coffee & Kitchen

625 N Hwy 146, Kemah · open daily 6:30 AM–3 PM · next door to T-Bone Tom’s

This is where you come for breakfast tacos in Kemah. Tormenta uses locally roasted Houston coffee and runs a full Latin-inspired scratch kitchen alongside it. Tacos come on flour or corn tortillas with eggs, chorizo, beans, potatoes, or portobello fajitas and are served all day.

The standout is the Dad’s Shrimp Tacos — three tacos with shrimp, melted cheese, and red ranchero sauce, topped with avocado and pickled onions, built from the owner’s family recipe. That single item is the most Kemah thing on any breakfast menu in town: Gulf shrimp, eaten at a counter on Hwy 146 at 7 in the morning.

Also order: Migas (fried tortilla chips scrambled with eggs and cheese), chilaquiles in salsa with chorizo and crema, or the SoCal Breakfast Sandwich — fried egg, avocado, bacon, and pepperjack on ciabatta.

Good to know: Tormenta serves lunch too, including American Wagyu burgers and ceviches, so it doubles as an early lunch stop if you’re on the water for the day.

Cuban Cafe Kemah

903 FM Rd 518 E, Kemah · Monday–Saturday, opens 6:30 AM · closed Sunday

Cuban Cafe is a small neighborhood spot serving pressed Cuban sandwiches and Cuban-style breakfasts. The morning anchor is café con leche and a breakfast sandwich — strong coffee, a pressed egg sandwich, nothing fussy. The rest of the menu covers ropa vieja, empanadas, and yuca with fried plantains as the day goes on. Note that it is closed on Sundays.

At the Boardwalk and Waterfront

Bayside Grille

215 Kipp Ave (Kemah Boardwalk), Kemah · open daily from 7 AM

Bayside Grille sits on the Kemah Boardwalk, a few steps from Galveston Bay. The morning menu leans café-style: beignets dusted in powdered sugar, coffee, omelets, and French toast. It is not a heavy diner — come here when you want something sweet with a water view on a Saturday morning.

Hours vary by day: Monday–Thursday 7 AM–3 PM; Friday 7 AM–6 PM; Saturday 7 AM–7 PM; Sunday 7 AM–6 PM. Boardwalk restaurant hours can shift with the season, so check before you go.

La Mer Cafe

228 Marina Bay Dr Suite D, Kemah · Tuesday–Friday 6 AM–8 PM; Saturday–Sunday 7 AM–8 PM · closed Monday

La Mer Cafe is a French-leaning bakery cafe on the marina end of Marina Bay Drive. It opens at 6 AM on weekdays — the earliest café in this group — and serves pastries, coffee, and light breakfast items. The crowd is almost entirely morning regulars, and the setting is calm enough for a long cup of coffee before the waterfront wakes up.

Near the Marina

Skipper’s

1026 Marina Bay Drive, Clear Lake Shores (77565) · open daily 5:30 AM–2 PM

Skipper’s sits in Clear Lake Shores, a one-square-mile municipality that shares the 77565 zip code and sits between the Kemah Boardwalk and the marina. The Psarovarkas family has run it since 1994, and it is now in its second generation. The kitchen still hand-peels potatoes for every order of home fries.

Here is what most visitors miss: the menu combines three different cuisines in one room — American breakfast (pancakes, chicken fried steak, omelets), Greek family recipes (gyros, spanakopita, moussaka, saganaki, baklava), and Gulf seafood (fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, red snapper). You can order a gyro and baklava at 5:30 AM. That is unusual. It is also genuinely good.

Order: The gyro omelette, or the chicken fried steak for the full Texas plate. If you arrive after 10 AM, the gyros become the obvious move.

Art of Coffee

609 Bradford Ave Suite 105, Kemah · Monday–Saturday 7 AM–6 PM; Sunday 8 AM–6 PM

Art of Coffee is a neighborhood coffee shop with local art on the walls. It is quieter than the Hwy 146 corridor and draws regulars from the surrounding Kemah neighborhoods. The focus is on espresso drinks and sweet treats rather than a full breakfast plate. It is the right stop if you want a well-made coffee and a pastry without the diner crowd.

Worth the short drive: Seabrook Waffle Company

1402 5th St, Seabrook TX 77586 · about 2 miles from the Kemah Boardwalk Open Monday–Thursday 8 AM–2 PM, Friday–Saturday 8 AM–8 PM; closed Sunday

Seabrook Waffle Company is in Seabrook rather than Kemah, but it is two miles from the Boardwalk and does something none of the Kemah spots do: Belgian-style Liège waffles, made with pearl sugar that caramelizes against the hot iron into a crackling, slightly sticky crust. The coffee comes from Seabrook Coffee Company. Note they close at 2 PM on weekdays; check before a late-morning visit.

Save this: the Kemah morning route

All three stops are within a mile of each other on the Hwy 146 and Marina Bay corridor. Walk or take a short drive between them.

  1. 6:30 AM — Start at Tormenta Coffee on Hwy 146 for a breakfast taco and specialty coffee.
  2. Walk or drive down Marina Bay Drive to La Mer Cafe for a pastry and a view of the marina.
  3. Finish at Skipper’s at 1026 Marina Bay Drive for a full plate and however much more coffee you need.
