Maybe it’s the hilarity that ensues when southern accents meet British ones, but something about British bars in Houston is just plain fun. Both Texans and ex-pats gather frequently at these great pubs for everything from the food to the drink to the fact that British pubs feel like home, whether you’re from the Isles or not. There’s never a lack of brews and ryes to wash delicious English pub grub down with, and friendly staff members and good music are as common as beer, though the music varies from live performances to jukebox wailers. While the mood may seem mellow at first glance, it’s the sense of home and comfort that allows people to really let loose. Come the later hours of the night, these places erupt with the wild, laughing crowd that comes with the combination of southern charm and British wit.

The bar its elf is well stocked with brews from the Isles sitting alongside domestics and their heavy-handed cocktails are always a favorite to get the night crowd rolling. If your roll gets going a little too well at Rudyard's British Pub though, not to worry because their kitchen stays open late and the fare that it serves up is some of the best bar food in Houston—go in there anytime and get a burger and you'll instantly know what we're talking about. Also, the owners of Rudyard's have recently been hosting live music nights upstairs showcasing local Houston talent firmly set in the indie and alternative veins to compliment their already killer jukebox.
